The company is a well-regarded national supplier of high-quality sandwiches and has been operating for over 20 years. From our humble beginnings in Yorkshire they now service our valued customers all the way from the top to the bottom of the UK from our head office in Yorkshire and our distribution centre in London with our high-quality sandwiches that delight millions of end users every year through our vast customer network.  

Due to the continued development and significant investment in our Yorkshire head office & production plant, we are looking for a further strong and experienced Production Manager to be a key driver within our production facility.  

 

The Role  

You will be responsible for managing demands, predicting ingredient consumption, production and resource constraints that may affect the production plan and work with the relevant functions to minimise the impact and optimise production output.

The Production Manager is wholly responsible for ensuring that the quality of our product is maintained to the highest standards as our customers have come to known & love.  

This role based at the head office and will require the successful candidate to lead a team of production operatives to meet, develop and drive forward key performance targets.

They will also engage and develop team members to deliver output requirements across the department and to provide constant feedback to the Operations Manager highlighting and implementing best practice.

The role will involve implementation of continuous improvement practices within the food production facility, liaising interdepartmentally, Ensuring food safety audits and that BRC standards are being achieved.   

Due to the way that we are set up, the Production Manager will directly manage the full production facility along with the operatives with help from production line leaders but will also need to get involved in the production process themselves. Our next superstar will be someone who likes a challenge and wants to be a pivotal in the further development of our business.  

This is a refrigerated & safety critical environment so strong HSE focus and skills are also crucial. 

 

Key responsibilities will include:

• Operate and drive a zero accident, fully BRC compliant culture delivered by leading by example and working effectively with pre-existing processes and implementing new process as required. 

• Ensure teams utilise and apply safe systems of working and identify and create opportunities to improve working environments using continuous improvement methods and reviews. 

• Lead with a passion for quality. 

• Respond to non-conformances in a timely manner, communicating appropriately with key stakeholders and taking urgent action to escalate and redress any deviation away from company standards.

• Adopting  attitude and approach demonstrating determination and resilience to improve line efficiency results and achieve target output levels.

• Demonstrate active involvement in optimising the workplace, by engaging and developing team members and by working with the management team to sustain and improve standards. 

• Create an environment that delivers high performance through effective performance management and development planning.

• Demonstrate effective and professional communication skills with people at all levels of the business.

• Constructively leading and facilitating team meetings, recording the outcomes and delivering these to the senior management team.

• Understand and actively contribute to improving the financial impact of operational performance by minimising raw material and product loss and controlling stock levels accurately.

• Ensure regular audits of area and equipment are maintained. 

• Collaboratively work with the Management team to ensure consistent standards are applied and all service expectations and department KPI’s are achieved (internal and external).

• Be fully accountable for working with your team to develop and complete continual personal development plans and continually embrace learning new skills and developing existing skills is a fundamental requirement of all employees. 

 

The Candidate  

You will possess the following skills and experience:  

• Experience within a food manufacturing business is essential.

• Strong leadership background and able to demonstrate sound judgment and technical competence and the determination to optimise performances.

• Ability to inspire, motivate, direct and guide others is essential. 

• Excellent people management experience with a proven track record of managing, leading and developing production teams in a food manufacturing environment 

• Excellent knowledge and experience of applying continuous improvement methodologies.

• Experience of working and managing change within a large-scale food manufacturing environment.

• Strong interpersonal, communication and reporting skills.
