The Business 

We are currently looking to recruit a Category Manager on a 1 year FTC basis for a supplier of Ambient products in the East Midlands area. The role will be working on the Tesco account for the business. The business supplies a range of branded products used in baking and is part of a large group with interests across the UK.

 

The Role 

  • Support the development of a deep understanding of Tesco, the shoppers’ behaviors and attitudes towards the Category, and be seen as the Category expert internally and externally.
  • Seek out and stay informed about the key strategic drivers within our retailers; and influence relevant retailer category drivers.
  • Category representation within Business Teams, guiding BT through influencing and ownership of category centric business strategic charters. 
  • Establish and develop Category relationships with key strategic retail partners delivering Category recommendations through strong shopper, category and commercial insight.
  • Deliver Range Reviews with customer-tailored plans to drive visibility, in-store availability and sales.
  • Via appropriate sources, build a thorough knowledge of the shopper and how they interact with the categories, their triggers and barriers, advising externally & internally the challenges & opportunities for the category.
  • Track and monitor the performance of our products within the categories they operate, be proactive in communicating concerns and potential solutions, and link to the Vision.
  • Define the optimum promotional strategy for the brands within the Category, evaluating performance with Sales and Finance to deliver increased ROI.
  • Secure, analyse and apply customer data, such as EPOS & any other that we acquire.
  • Ensure high quality fact-based selling stories are developed and briefed to the trading teams for all branded initiatives.
  • Drive the Category agenda & create good working practices with data providers, to ensure their alignment to Category objectives and appropriate data management.

 

The Person

  • Highly numerate with attention to detail.
  • Ability to gain insight from data and convert into a commercial plan.
  • Success in managing and developing accounts and relationships within a FMCG environment.
  • Ability to set the agenda, and deliver the plan both internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and manage change.
  • Team player attitude, adaptable and flexible nature.
  • Self-starter – able to take the initiative.
