The Business

Our client is operating in the UK as a branded retail food manufacturer supplying products that consumers love and admire.  In the crowded FMCG market they have separated themselves on Green sustainable credentials through their approach to full sustainability, and it has created a real step change in their growth. 

The Role

They are currently looking to appoint a Senior Category Manager to manage retailers in the North of England. The role will report into the Head of Category alongside the Senior Category Manager for the South of England. As part of the role you will:

  • Proactively build, manage and maintain cross functional relationships within designated retail accounts to ensure business remains the preferred category advisor in core categories
  • Be responsible for delivering best in class category management through driving category growth, providing insights, an objective category perspective and optimising the range
  • Initiate new, and leads on all retailer specific category management projects including range reviews, merchandising and store trials
  • Support the Commercial and Shopper Marketing teams on planning and evaluating promotional activity to achieve maximum ROI
  • Take a leading role in long term category planning internally and externally, proactively contributing to the development and implementation of collaborative, bespoke customer plans
  • Play an integral role in designated customer (cross functional retailer) teams, identifying and addressing issues and opportunities for the category and brand in the retailer 
  • Leads the development and circulation of relevant, regular and timely reports to monitor KPIs aligned to retailers, customer teams and brand teams
  • Turn data into actionable insights, using multiple sources and getting to a deeper understanding of category & shopper behaviour
  • Champions shopper insights and alignment to retailer strategy for competitive advantage
  • Work with insight manager to share research, trends and ever-changing shopping habits as relevant with retailers
  • Provides clear direction and recommendations addressing category and business issues & opportunities
  • Develop and manage strong relationships with agencies to deliver effective data and insight services
  • Manages contract and internal processes for specific retailer data on designated accounts  

The Person

  • Highly computer literate – strong Excel & PowerPoint
  • Highly numerate and analytical with strong communication and influencing skills
  • Strong and confident presentation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of IRI, Kantar Dunnhumby and I2C software and reports
  • Excellent knowledge of space planning software
  • Graduate calibre - preferably Degree educated to Hon level
  • Proven and demonstrable category management experience across major multiples
  • A great fit and ability to operate and be successful within the cultural framework of the business

The package comes with a competitive salary and a car allowance and is predominantly an office based role outside of visits to retailers.
