The Business

We are currently supporting a leading ambient snacks manufacturer with the recruitment of a Senior Category Manager. They are looking for a dynamic individual to lead Category Marketing strategy in specified accounts driving mutual profitable category growth through strategic category insight and consumer behaviour understanding.  Lead and grow preferred supplier status through trust, expertise and the proactive management of category strategies and plans, adapting these to the changing needs of the consumer.

The Role

  • Management of 1 Category Executive
  • Proactively liaise with the Category & Marketing team to ensure consistency of approach and sharing of best practice between accounts and across divisions
  • Create and lead category strategies and plans within specified accounts ensuring a proactive approach owning the consumer agenda with relevant Retailers as their preferred supplier for proposed category opportunities 
  • Drive Retailer category performance and ensure that promotional and pricing strategies are being managed effectively, whilst maximising the category product mix through regular Retailer engagement
  • Improve category performance understanding through full utilisation of available data sources.  
  • Share insights with Retailers and colleagues to ensure we are informed to the best of our ability to make effective decisions
  • Effective management of consumer research projects
  • Lead and influence the Retailer to maximise marketing opportunities with consumers via available media and communication tools to them
  • Proactively manage Retailer relationships in leading category meetings, delivering impactful presentations and effective management of projects

The Person

  • Experience of working in a Category Management function in an FMCG business
  • Self-sufficient category review abilities, from objective through analysis, observation to insight, coupled with clear story and flow in end outputs
  • Strong analytical and numerate skills to derive insight from multiple data sources
  • Effective spreadsheet analysis skills working with large numeric data sets 
  • Experience of using market data (e.g. Nielsen, Kantar, IRI, Dunnhumby, Aimia) and adapts easily to using new software and data systems.
