The Business

We are currently looking to recruit an ambitious Category Manager for an own label producer of ambient food. The business is part of a large overseas based group that experts to more than 60 countries around the world. They supply own label products across all of the major retailers and discounters in the UK.


The Role

  • Drive growth across our Brand categories through the analysis of all category and trend data, identify key insights and category drivers that will improve commercial performance
  • Use your expertise to evaluate and understand the dynamics of our categories, by providing high quality data and actionable insights to maximise brand and business returns.
  • Utilise all insights programs and shopper (IRI, Mintel, IGD) data sources effectively to make recommendations and aid business thinking on commercial and trade sector planning.
  • Support the National Account Managers by creating account specific selling stories to ensure a winning strategy at range reviews.
  • Prepare and present internally and externally market dynamic, category reviews and brand performance business analysis.
  • Work with brand teams to identify opportunities and next direction for brands.
  • Contribute to the development of brand and own label strategies
  • Provide business intelligence to senior Management team and Managing Director.
  • Conduct market reviews with ongoing monitoring and updates. Provide a category analysis for PL customers with actionable insights with the appropriate mix of branded and OL opportunities
  • Provide Insights to NPD team for development direction
  • Tracking and evaluating competitor activity in the market (both in store & online) feeding into reviews and updates
  • Manage the promotional evaluation process by analysing the data (internal, retailer and EPOS) and make recommendations for improvement accordingly

The Person 

  • Existing Category Manager within FMCG / experienced Category Executive ready to step up
  • 3 years of working with UK grocery retailers
  • Degree qualified.
  • Brand exposure and experience advantageous.
  • Some PL experience beneficial.
  • Experience in industry / FMCG environment.
  • Analytical problem solver with a high attention to detail.
  • Previous Knowledge and usage of scan data and EPOS essential.
  • High level of numeracy with exceptional IT skills.
  • An effective communicator - confident and outgoing – with highly impactful presentation skills.
  • Proactive, passionate, team player with a desire to learn.
