The Role:

The Category Executive role will interlink very closely with the Category Manager / Category Controller who work with retailers on a day to day level.  There is scope for the individual to progress into working with retailers to develop external category skills.


Reporting in to Category Controller

Key Responsibilities:

Data Analysis / Reporting

  • To develop and deliver key monthly reports that are circulated to the business using Nielsen data
  • To deliver category scorecards on time and with accuracy, using the EPOS data and highlighting any issues to the Category Controller
  • To support the Category Team updating account specific Dashboards, adding clear insight and recommendations 
  • To deliver key brand reports to the Marketing and Category Teams
  • NPD tracking reports to monitor the success of key brand launches
  • Price and Promotional tracking to be updated as a minimum at every retailer promotional period


Management of the Nielsen Databases

  • Work closely with external continuous data providers to ensure that all category databases are coded correctly and maintained i.e. ensure new products are coded appropriately
  • Close understanding of the segmentation of each category database and recommend changes to the current structure where relevant e.g. Sector and brand splits
  • Excellent knowledge of Nielsen systems to ensure full utilisation of the data provided


Adhoc Support

  • To support the Category Team to provide trade ready presentations in order to ensure a strong sell in of the Symingtons Brand and Own Label Portfolio
  • To support the Category Team on key range review preparation, account and brand planning preparation
  • To support the Brand Team during brand planning and large projects, supplying them with key market data using  Nielsen Data


In-store Merchandising

  • Conduct regular reviews of the products available within each of the categories – maintaining photographic images  for each key customer to be used by the category teams
  • Conduct regular store visits in order to collate key market insight including promotions, merchandising changes, NPD and cross category insight, ensuring these are maintained
  • Maintain a live Gap Analysis & pricing update for Top Grocers incl Co-op, Aldi & Lidl
  • Maintain an up to date live space audit of the key retailer

  • Understands the basic elements of the marketing mix

  • An understanding of data either through a insights or supply chain role, or through study
